Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Description
- Patient Population: Medical/Surgical patients
- Unit Details: Heparin drip management
- Shift: Day shift only (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Floating: Required to float to similar units at least once a week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holidays
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy color required
- Must pass an EKG competency test for this specialty
- May be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
- Possible mid-contract consolidation to centralized office with reassignment as needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical/Surgical or Telemetry nursing, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Heparin administration
Systems and Documentation
- Medication and documentation systems used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR communication method
Scheduling and Time Off
- RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite
- Maximum RTO allowed: 7 days
- Contract length accepted: 13 to 26 weeks
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start date
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start date
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start date; additional documentation required if history of positive TB
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Physical exam and references required per travel healthcare standards
- Must complete medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules prior to start
- Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of start (minimum passing score 82%, three attempts allowed)
- Color blindness testing required within 1 year prior to start
- Must complete annual compliance and confidentiality agreements
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport-style, navy scrubs, solid white background)
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and education checklists (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Must complete flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask-wearing requirement during flu season

- Candidates must be prepared to work holidays and meet weekend requirements
- Candidates should be comfortable with floating to similar units as needed
- This position requires adherence to strict attendance and time-off policies to avoid cancellation
- Facility may require participation in disaster response teams during contract period
