Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown (ED Surge) 

Location: Manchester, NH

Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Nights | 3 x 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
 

Job Summary

Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join its Cardiac Stepdown (ED Surge) team. This position is based in the Emergency Department, caring for Cardiac Intermediate Care (CICU) and inpatient hold patients requiring progressive cardiac monitoring and treatment. The ideal candidate will have a strong Progressive Care Unit (PCU) background and experience managing complex cardiac patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to cardiac stepdown and inpatient hold patients within the Emergency Department.
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments and monitor cardiac status using continuous telemetry.
  • Manage and titrate cardiac and vasoactive medications, including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, and other IV drips.
  • Care for patients with chest pain, heart failure, sepsis, COPD, pneumonia, GI bleeds, syncope, overdose, and post-cardiac catheterization with stent placement.
  • Monitor and care for patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and other non-invasive respiratory support.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and IV therapies while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, rapid response events, and changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.

Requirements

  • Active RN License (New Hampshire or Compact License)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience with a strong PCU/Stepdown background within the last year
  • Current BLS (BCLS) and ACLS certifications
  • EKG competency test required upon arrival
  • First-time travelers accepted with EPIC experience and at least 2 years of experience
  • Previous Charge Nurse experience preferred
