Job Summary

Hospital is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality emergency and trauma care in a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population, including trauma, critical care, medical, and surgical emergencies. Travelers should expect to manage both emergency patients and admitted patients held in the Emergency Department due to hospital capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to emergency and trauma patients in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
• Perform rapid patient assessments, triage, and prioritize care based on acuity.
• Monitor, assess, and treat patients experiencing medical, surgical, neurological, and traumatic emergencies.
• Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, and emergency interventions following evidence-based practice.
• Manage patients requiring trauma resuscitation, cardiac monitoring, ventilator support, and procedural sedation.
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IVs, manage central lines, and assist with arterial line care as needed.
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias and emergency situations.
• Collaborate with physicians, trauma teams, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, radiology, and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using Cerner.
• Float to ED Holding or Adult Progressive Care Units (PCUs) based on staffing needs while working within scope of practice.

Requirements

• Active New Mexico RN License (or pending at the time of submission)
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience (1.5 years may be considered)
• Level II Trauma experience required
• Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC (TNCC required prior to submission)
• NIHSS certification (may be completed before the start date)
• Experience in trauma and resuscitation preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted with strong Level I Trauma experience (travel experience preferred)
