Unit: 7 East – Trauma & General Surgery (Stepdown & Med Surg)

Join a high-acuity trauma and surgical unit at a Level I Trauma Center, caring for complex trauma, bariatric, and general surgery patients.

Requirements

• Active RN License
• BLS required
• Recent EPIC experience (Required)
• Level I Trauma experience (Required)
• Must be comfortable with 1:6 Med Surg ratios
• Strong Trauma, Stepdown, and General Surgery experience

Unit Details

• 30-bed unit
  • 18 Stepdown beds
  • 12 Med Surg beds
• Ratios:
  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • Med Surg: 1:6
• Free Charge Nurse 24/7
• House Supervisor available
• Four Clinical Associates (CNAs) when fully staffed

Patient Population

• Multi-trauma
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
• Spinal cord injuries
• Fractures
• General Surgery
• Bariatric Surgery
• Complex medical and surgical patients

Required Clinical Skills

• Complex wound care
• Chest tube management
• Respiratory support
• Drains and specialty devices
• Ostomy care
• Trauma patient management
• Telemetry interpretation
• TBI and spinal injury care

Common drips include:

• Heparin
• PCA
• Insulin
• Cardizem

Additional Information

• Stable/chronic ventilator patients only
• RT available 24/7
• Telemetry monitored by monitor technicians; RNs must validate and interpret rhythms
• EPIC charting
• Royal Blue scrubs

Schedule

• 7:00 AM–7:30 PM or 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Every other weekend (or two weekends every four weeks)
• Holiday rotation required
• Float to similar Med Surg or Stepdown units as needed

This assignment is ideal for experienced Trauma and Stepdown RNs who thrive in a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center and are confident managing complex surgical and trauma patients.
