Description
Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Monroe, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit and Patient Population
- Mixed unit including Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Med Surg/Telemetry, and Med Surg
- Average daily census: 19 patients
- 25 rooms and 25 beds
- Patient age group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Staffing ratio: 1:6 on all shifts
- Floating required to Hickman, 2 South and 3 North Acute Care units, ICU (intermediate care patients), ER, and Behavioral Health as needed
- Patient diagnoses include Covid, Stroke, NSTEMI, Chest Pain, AKI, Pneumonia, COPD Exacerbation, CHF Exacerbation, Cellulitis, AMS
- Special procedures/unit details: Intermediate Care Unit, Pilot Team Nursing Model (RN, LPN for 7 patients)
- Special equipment: Safe Patient Handling Equipment
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Electronic health record system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications and Competencies
- ACLS (AHA provider, instructor, or RQI cards accepted)
- BLS (AHA provider, instructor, or RQI cards accepted)
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required unless certificate states 2-year expiration)
- Telemetry competency (Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training for de-escalation can be obtained onsite after start with approval
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) may be required depending on unit assignment
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually
- Education verification required (highest level)
- Fingerprinting: Michigan LARA fingerprint results required for all psych positions; other fingerprinting requirements vary by unit and state
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
- 2 professional references required within 2 years of start; at least one must be from a leader (Charge RN or above)
- Skills checklist required for all candidates
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
- N95 fit test required within 12 months of start and must be updated annually (onsite completion possible with approval if needed)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable unless on prescription medications)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or proof of previous vaccination; declination accepted
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months of start, updated annually; chest x-ray required if history of positive TB
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption required
- Varicella immunity via positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption required
- Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); declinations not accepted during flu season
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Navy
- Radiation badges issued by facility if applicable (not recruiter responsibility)
- Must complete a time-sensitive agency form at least 10 days prior to start, including submission of professional headshot for badge printing
- Floating assignments will be based on experience and scope of practice
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry skills who are comfortable working in a mixed acute care environment with floating responsibilities and weekend shifts.
