Job Description – RN MedSurg/Telemetry

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry

Shift:

• 12-Hour Nights
• 36 hours/week
• 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Experience Required:

• Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience
• First-time travelers not accepted

Unit Overview:

• 20-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit
• Transitional Care Unit
• Primarily medical patients with occasional post-surgical admissions

Common Patient Diagnoses:

• CHF
• COPD
• Kidney, liver, GI, and respiratory conditions
• CIWA patients
• Infections
• Wound care
• General medical patients with occasional surgical cases

Patient Ratio:

• 1:5

Required Certifications:

• BLS
• ACLS

Required Skills:

• Tracheostomy care
• Chest tube management
• IV starts
• Wound care and dressing changes
• Wound VAC management
• Drain management
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Central line blood draws
• Non-titrating drips: Heparin, Lasix, Protonix

Preferred Skills:

• Non-titrating Cardizem and Amiodarone drips (training available if needed)

Support Staff:

• CNA support
• Charge RN
• 24/7 Phlebotomy
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
• 24/7 Hospitalist coverage
• 24/7 Resident coverage
• Bedside telemetry monitoring with central monitoring station

Equipment & Systems:

• EMR: Epic
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Omnicell

Floating:

• May float within scope of practice based on hospital needs

Orientation:

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• 2 unit orientation shifts

Additional Information:

• No on-call requirements
• Every other weekend required
• 50% holiday requirement
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue
