Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown (PCU)
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Assignment Duration: July 5, 2026 – October 3, 2026
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
On-Call: None
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care to join a high-acuity cardiac unit. The ideal candidate will provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
- Care for patients with advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, acute coronary syndrome, and pre- and post-cardiac surgery needs.
- Administer medications, treatments, and cardiac therapies according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and promptly respond to changes in patient condition.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families regarding disease management, medications, and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Adhere to all patient safety, infection prevention, and quality care standards.

- Unit Type: Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Bed Capacity: 23 beds
- Patient Population:
- Advanced heart failure
- Cardiomyopathy
- Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
- Pre- and post-cardiac surgery patients
- Other complex cardiac disorders
- Patient Age: Adults (18 years and older)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent Cardiac Stepdown, Progressive Care, or comparable acute care nursing experience.
- Strong cardiac assessment and rhythm interpretation skills.
- Successful completion of a proctored rhythm interpretation exam.
- Experience caring for high-acuity cardiac patients preferred.
Required Certifications
- Active Tennessee RN License or Compact RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
