Description

Minimum years of experience: at least 2 years in Labor & Delivery
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No, must have completed at least 1 assignment at a facility comparable in size and acuity Trauma Level ll, Peds Trauma Level ll, and a Teaching Hospital

Required Certifications:  RN: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM, MOAB

EMR: Cerner; fetal link

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:  PIH, GDM, Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP, Shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage (assessed on admission, intrapartum, & postpartum), multiples, fetal loss, drug addiction, cervical ripening.  Newborn care: if mother stays on unit for continuous surveillance (Mag x 24hrs), labor nurse would be responsible for documenting feeds and vitals and assessment for baby.  Testing to be completed by Mother-Baby staff.  Istat or bridge milk (PHDM) on babies usually done by core staff.

Skills required: titrate Pitocin, Fetal scalp electrodes, cervical exams, helps CRNA with epidural placement, management of insulin drips, magnesium drips, Shoulder dystocia, circulating c-section and/or receive baby in OR, neonatal resuscitation, assist with placement and monitor of IUPC; Newborn care to include: ability to provide lactation support, safe skin to skin protocol

Floating: Could float to Mother Baby, but would only Antepartum, Postpartum or occasionally Mother-Baby (Newborn Nursery RN would do 24 hr labs)
