Travel RN - Neuro ICU & EMU Position Summary

Key Position Details

• Duration: 91 days (13 weeks)
• Specialty: Neuro ICU & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• Unit: 6E (Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute)
• Shift: 12-hour Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
• Number of Positions: 5
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week (will consider 48-hour schedules)
• Orientation: 2 shifts on unit
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Unit Details - 6E

• Total Beds: 31 (25 Stepdown + 6 EMU)
• Nurse:Patient Ratio:
  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • EMU Floor: 1:5-6
• EMR System: EPIC (experience REQUIRED)
• Telemetry: Yes (RNs do not have to read strips - monitor techs available)

Required Qualifications & Experience

• MUST HAVE:
  • Strong Neuro experience required
  • Stepdown qualified RN (NOT ICU level)
  • NIHSS certification IN HAND at submission
  • History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH
• Certifications:
  • BLS (AHA) - required
  • NIHSS - required
  • ACLS - preferred
• License: WVU willing to work with pending licenses
• BSN: Not required

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

• Common Diagnoses:
  • Higher acuity neuroscience patients
  • EVDs (experience preferred; typically assigned to perm staff)
  • TPA patients (24-hour post-TPA managed by perm staff only)
  • Strokes
  • Seizures/EMU monitoring
  • Craniotomies
• Drip Management: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin (titration by physician orders/protocols - will educate)
• Ventilators: Floor vents present (set settings, managed by RT & physician; RN vent experience NOT required)

Staffing Support

• Charge Nurse: 24/7
• PCTs: 4 per shift (ratio 1:8-9)
• RT: Available 24/7

Schedule Requirements

• Shifts: 3x12's, 19:00 - 07:30
• Consecutive Days: May allow 3 in a row (not guaranteed - must be flexible)
• Weekends: Every other weekend OR 2 weekend shifts per schedule
