Travel ICU RN Position Summary
CHI Health Good Samaritan - Kearney, NE
Key Position Details
- Start Date: August 3, 2026
- End Date: November 2, 2026
- Duration: 91 days (13 weeks)

- Shift: 12-hour Nights (18:30 - 06:30)
- Number of Positions: 1
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Orientation: 1 shift on unit + 12 hours
- Trauma Level: Level 2
Unit Details - ICU
- Total Beds: 33
- Average Daily Census: 16
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- EMR System: EPIC
- Monitors: GE brand with tele tech oversight
- RT Equipment: Nasal cannula to vents (RNs troubleshoot as needed)
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (required)
- ACLS (required)
- NIHSS (required)
- Skills Required:
- Must be able to read/interpret/document telemetry strips
- Drip titration (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
- Ventilator management
- Critical care experience
- License: Active NE or Compact RN license required at submission
- BSN: Not required
Patient Population & Clinical Skills
- Common Diagnoses:
- Trauma patients
- Cardiac (post-stent, pacemaker placement)
- Overdose/substance abuse
- Sepsis
- Stroke
- Vascular cases
- Renal failure, heart failure
- Respiratory distress
- Drip Titration: Yes - all cardiac drips, insulin, sedation drips
- Airway Management: Full range from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
Staffing Support
- Nursing Aides: Yes, based on census (1:1 sitters or floor assistance)
- Healthcare Support Tech: 3 days/week (M-F, 08:00-16:30)
- Tele Techs: Yes, with monitor oversight
- RT: Available for vent management
Schedule Requirements
- Shift Times: 06:30-18:30 (Days), 18:30-06:30 (Nights)
- Self-Scheduling: Core staff self-schedule, travelers added in
- Block Scheduling: NOT approved unless weekends only
- Weekends: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holidays: Minimum 2 holidays within contract timeframe
- Call: If placed on call and called back, must arrive within 30 minutes
- RTO: 7 days or less per 13-week contract (must be included upfront; additional RTO will NOT be approved)
Floating Requirements
- Typical: PCU
- Occasional: Med-Surg
- Ratio when floating: Same as assigned units (1:4 or 1:5)
CRITICAL Orientation Requirement ⚠️
PASS/FAIL EXAM on Wednesday during orientation:
- Open book exam on skills learned
- All necessary resources provided
- Must achieve 90% to pass
- Failure to pass = contract termination

- Must be >50 miles from facility
- Driver's license required at submittal to verify distance
- Candidates may NOT be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
