WVU Wheeling Hospital - Wheeling, WV

Key Position Details

Start Date: July 16, 2026 (TOMORROW!)
End Date: October 15, 2026
Duration: 91 days (13 weeks)
Specialty: CVSD (Cardiovascular Stepdown)
Shift: 12-hour Day/Night Rotating (06:45 - 18:15 or 18:15 - 06:45)
Number of Positions: 1
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Orientation: 1x12-hour shift with preceptor
Scrub Color: Navy Blue (no artificial nails)

Total Beds: 22
Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4-6
Charting System: Allscripts
Monitors: Nihon Koden (RNs do NOT read strips - tech handles interpretation/documentation)

Required Qualifications & Experience

MUST HAVE:
- Epicardial pacing experience REQUIRED
- Chest tube management experience REQUIRED
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips
- Cardiac stepdown experience
Certifications:
- BLS (required)
- ACLS (required)
License: Active WV RN license (copy of unexpired driver's license REQUIRED at submission)
BSN: Not required

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

Common Diagnoses:
- Bradycardia, A-fib, SVT
- CHF (Congestive Heart Failure)
- CAD (Coronary Artery Disease)
- NSTEMI
- PVD (Peripheral Vascular Disease)
- PE (Pulmonary Embolism)
- CVA/TIA (Stroke/TIA)
- Post-operative VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery)
- Post-operative lobectomy
- Post-operative wedge resection
- Chest tubes
- Tracheotomy (no vents)
- TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
- Post-op day 1 CABG (admitted to ICU post-op, transfer to CVSD next day)

Critical Care Skills Required

Drip Titration: Yes - per ordered parameters
- Cardizem
- Amiodarone
- Procainamide
- Dopamine
- Dobutamine
- Heparin
- Insulin (rarely)
Specialty Skills:
- Epicardial pacing management
- Chest tube care/management
- Tracheotomy care
- Post-cardiac surgery monitoring
- Hemodynamic monitoring
Equipment:
- NO ventilators
- CPAP/Airvo available
- NO continuous BiPAP
- Monitor techs handle all strip interpretation

Staffing Support

Charge Nurse: Takes full patient assignment
Nursing Supervisor: 24/7 in-house
Nursing Aides: Yes (ratio 1:15)
IV Therapy Team: Handles all IV sticks (you will not start IVs)
Hospitalist: In-house
Intensivist: In-house
RT: Available hospital-wide 24/7 (no vents on unit)
Monitor Techs: NOT on unit - all interpretation/documentation completed by tech

Schedule Requirements - IMPORTANT ⚠️ Shift Options: Night Shift Only Rotating Day/Night: 2 weeks days, then 2 weeks nights (varying based on staffing needs) Schedule Details: Shift Times: 06:45 - 18:15 or 18:15 - 06:45 Weekends: Averages every other weekend
