Description
Position Overview
- Unit: Neurocritical Care ICU (Neuro ICU)
- Shift: 12-Hour Nights (1900–0700) | 36 Hours/Week
- Schedule Cycle: 6-week increments
- On-Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend rotation
- Holiday Rotation: Every other holiday
- Requested Time Off (RTO): Up to 7 days of RTO can be pre-approved during the screening process.
- Clinical Interviewing: Yes, a manager interview is required.
Compensation & Logistics
- Dress Code: Any solid color scrubs (no graphics, logos, or designs).
- Parking: Free on-site parking provided.
- Safety Fatigue Policy: The health system strictly adheres to a fatigue policy—all staff (including travelers) are restricted to a maximum of 60 working hours per week and cannot work more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Key Responsibilities & Patient Care
- Provide high-acuity care with a patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 (1:3 for mixed-acuity status).
- Assess and manage complex neuro patients including post-TNK/thrombectomies, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH, IPH, IVH, SDH), seizures, spinal surgeries, and brain mass resections/biopsies.
- Note: Core staff are assigned to the most critical neuro-intensive care patients.
- Manage medical respiratory and general medical ICU overflow patients.
- Operate essential ICU equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, and healthcare EVDs (External Ventricular Drains).
- Safely manage vasopressors, critical care sedation, and central line blood draws.
- Utilize EPIC charting, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Client patient monitors.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of high-acuity ICU experience.
- First-Time Travelers: Welcomed with strong, proven ICU experience.
- Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
- System Competency: EPIC electronic medical records experience is strictly required.
- Preferred Skills: Experience with CVVH/CRRT and EVD management is highly preferred.
- Floating Expectations: Must be willing to float as needed to:
- ED Holding (boarding inpatient holds; 1:3 to 1:4 ratio)
- Other sister ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, CVICU)
- Medical-Surgical units (1:3 ratio)
- PACU Surge (1:3 to 1:4 ratio)
- Sitter shifts

On shift, you will have access to exceptional unit support:
- 24/7 Intensivists (2 on days, 1 on nights) and 24/7 Hospitalists
- Dedicated Critical Care NPs (2 on days)
- Free-floating Charge Nurse (rarely takes a patient assignment)
- 24/7 Respiratory Therapy (RT) support
- Dedicated CNAs assisting with a 1:8 to 1:10 ratio
- Phlebotomy team to assist with peripheral blood draws
- Bedside telemetry and a central monitoring station manned at the nurse's desk
