Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Location: Omaha, NE
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Start Date: 08/03/2026
Shift: Night | 3x12 Hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
On-Call Requirement: May be placed on-call for regularly scheduled shifts. Weekend requirement includes a minimum of 3 weekend shifts plus a Sunday night per scheduling period (subject to unit needs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized critical care to infants, children, and adolescents in a Level I Trauma Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
- Assess, monitor, and manage critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical, surgical, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular conditions.
- Care for ventilated patients, assist with intubation, airway management, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and mechanical ventilation.
- Monitor and manage hemodynamic status, central lines, PICC lines, CVP, IV therapies, vasoactive drips, blood products, and TPN.
- Administer pediatric medications, including continuous sedation, vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, anti-seizure medications, and perform pediatric dosage calculations.
- Perform neurological assessments, ICP monitoring, EVD care, post-neurosurgical care, and assist with lumbar punctures.
- Provide care for patients requiring CRRT, dialysis, insulin therapy, enteral feeding, and complex wound management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, family-centered critical care.
- Float as a Rover Nurse/Task Nurse to inpatient units, including NICU, Labor & Delivery, and adult acute care, performing patient care tasks within competency.
- Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR while maintaining compliance with hospital protocols and safety standards.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience in a Level I Trauma Center required.
- Previous travel nursing experience required (first-time travelers accepted only with 3+ years of Level I PICU experience).
- BLS and PALS certifications required; ACLS preferred.
- Experience with Epic charting system required.
- Strong skills in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, central line care, pediatric critical care, and emergency response.
- Ability to care for patients across the PICU, PCU, and Acute Care acuity spectrum.
- Must be willing to float to other inpatient units as needed within scope of practice.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and pediatric critical care skills.
