Cath Lab Technologist (Travel)

• 933-bed Level III Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Magnet Designated
• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• COVID-19 vaccine required

Department Overview

• 15 procedure labs shared between Cath Lab, EP, and Hybrid OR
• Approximately 11 labs dedicated to Cath Lab
• Travelers work exclusively in the Cath Lab
• Fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Performs approximately 24–40 cases per day
• Adult patients only (no pediatrics)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of Cath Lab experience
• First-time travelers not accepted

• Diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures
• Right & Left Heart Caths (RHC/LHC)
• STEMI & NSTEMI interventions
• Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO)
• Valvuloplasty
• CardioMEMS
• Cardiac biopsies
• Atherectomy
• Staged PCI
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
• Impella
• ECMO (preferred)

Peripheral

• Diagnostic and interventional peripheral vascular procedures
• Fistulograms

Hybrid OR (Preferred, Not Required)

• AAA grafts
• Thoracic grafts
• TAVR procedures
• Watchman implants
• Surgical clips

Patient Ratio

• 1:1

Required Certifications

Cath Lab Tech

• ARRT (R)
• Wisconsin Radiography License
• BLS
• ACLS

Preferred

• RCIS

Required Skills

• Scrubbing procedures
• Panning
• Experience with cardiac and peripheral interventions listed above
• Hybrid OR experience preferred but not required

Permanent staff monitor cases.

Department Support

• Housekeeping performs room turnover
• Supply room managed by storeroom staff
• Rooms stocked by night shift Cath Lab staff
• Transport available daily (6:30 AM–8:00 PM)
• Receptionist/HUC available (6:00 AM–8:00 PM)
• Charge Nurse/Lead Tech available and generally remains out of cases
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 (manages ventilated patients)
• Hospitalist available 24/7
• Cardiology coverage in-house 24/7
• Critical Response Team responds to codes

Schedule

• Department operates 24/7
• Mix of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts
• Typical shift options:
  • 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM
  • 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM
• Combination of shifts may be used to meet weekly hours

Weekend & Call Requirements

Weekend Coverage

• Travelers may occasionally be scheduled on weekends, but weekends are generally covered through call.

Call

• Required
• Worst-case expectation is Friday through Friday (7 consecutive days of call) every 2–3 months
• May not be assigned all seven days, but candidates should be prepared for that possibility
• Call begins after scheduled shift and continues until 6:00 AM the following morning
• 30-minute response time required

Time Off

• Up to 7 days may be approved.

Holiday Expectations

• Travelers typically are not scheduled to work holidays.

Additional Information

• Aurora Health Care fatigue policy limits all staff, including travelers, to:
  • Maximum 60 hours worked per week
  • No more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
• Scrubs provided by the facility
• Free parking
