Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room experience
- Must include Level I and/or Level II Trauma experience accumulated within the last 2 years.
- Candidates with only Level III, Critical Access Hospital (CAH), or lower trauma experience will not be considered.
- 100-mile radius rule applies.
- Epic EMR proficiency required (must have used Epic within the last 5 years).
- No 48-hour guarantees.
- No blocked scheduling requests.
- Maximum 5 days of RTO (Requested Time Off).
Unit Overview
- Trauma Designation: Level III Trauma Center (functions similarly to a Level I)
- STEMI Receiving: Yes
- Stroke Receiving: Yes (patients requiring intervention are transferred out)
- Annual ED Volume: Approximately 200 patients/day
- ED Beds: 52
- Trauma Bays: 4
- Fast Track Beds: 6
Staffing & Ratios
- Patient Ratios
- Medical ED: 1:5
- Fast Track: 1:6
- Charge Nurse: Yes (Charge is free from assignments)
- House Supervisor available for additional support
- Physician Coverage
- Emergency physicians
- Mid-level providers
- Pediatric board-certified provider on shift
- Support Staff
- ED Techs (2+ years experience): EKGs, vital signs, blood draws, splints
- PCAs (<2 years experience): Similar duties
- Monitor Techs available
- Respiratory Therapy assigned to ED 24/7
Required Certifications

- TNCC preferred
Floating
- Shared schedule with Foothills Freestanding ER
- Typically scheduled in advance
- Last-minute floating is uncommon
- Approximately 15-minute drive
Patient Care
- RN interprets own telemetry
- Monitor technician also available
- Uses ESI (Emergency Severity Index) for triage
- Two Quick Look triage areas
- ED holds are intermixed with ED patients
- No dedicated psych/seclusion rooms
- Security located in the ED 24/7
- Treats all emergency patient populations
Common Treatments
- ICU drips for boarded ICU patients
- ICU staff assist when available
- Respiratory Therapy responsibilities:
- ABGs
- Nebulizer treatments
- Ventilator management
- CPAP
Equipment
- Glidescope
- Hamilton ventilators
- Phillips ventilators
Diagnostics
- Dedicated CT scanner in the ED
- Dedicated X-ray in the ED
- Transport team available
- RN accompanies critically ill patients during transport
Laboratory
- No phlebotomy team
