Job Description

Currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – Operating Room Circulator to support perioperative services during an 8-week Epic conversion project. The RN Circulator will provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered nursing care throughout the surgical experience while collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the multidisciplinary perioperative team.

The ideal candidate will have strong operating room experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced surgical environment while supporting workflow optimization during the Epic transition.
 

Responsibilities

• Serve as the circulating RN during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative process.
• Perform preoperative patient assessments, verify patient identity, surgical consent, procedure, allergies, and surgical site according to safety protocols.
• Prepare operating rooms with required equipment, supplies, instruments, implants, and medications based on scheduled procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, surgical time-out, and prevention of patient injury during procedures.
• Coordinate communication between surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub technicians, and other members of the surgical team.
• Maintain accurate intraoperative documentation, including surgical counts, implants, specimens, medications, and procedure details.
• Act as a patient advocate by promoting safety, privacy, comfort, and dignity throughout the surgical experience.
• Monitor sterile technique and anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures.
• Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to hospital policies.
• Support infection prevention practices and adherence to regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with the perioperative team during urgent and emergent surgical cases when required.
• Provide accurate documentation and support workflow changes related to Epic EMR conversion.

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN License
• Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room RN Circulator experience
• Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and surgical workflows
• Experience with surgical documentation and EMR systems
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operating room environment
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical-thinking skills

Preferred Experience

• Travel RN experience
• Experience supporting EMR/Epic implementation or conversion projects
• Experience with general surgery, orthopedic, gynecologic, vascular, and outpatient surgical procedures
• Community hospital or multi-specialty OR experience
