NICU Travel RN – Unit Summary
Critical Submission Requirements
- Do NOT submit candidates with any license hits related to medication diversion or patient endangerment. If discovered, the contract will be immediately canceled.
- EPIC experience is mandatory (100% required).
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience (firm requirement).
- Charge nurse experience is required.

- NICU Level: II
- Beds: 20
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3 (based on acuity and staffing)

Patient Population
- Premature and extremely premature infants
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)
- Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)
- Feeding intolerance
- Respiratory distress/support
- Sepsis/Meningitis
- Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS)/Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC)
- Hyperbilirubinemia
Required Clinical Skills
Must be comfortable caring for:
- Infants 32 weeks gestation and above or greater than 1500 grams
- Nasal Cannula (NC)
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- CPAP
- NAVA ventilation
- Conventional ventilators
- Feeding pumps
Drips
- RNs titrate drips: Yes
- Common drips:
- Blood pressure medications
- TPN/D10
- Insulin
Respiratory Equipment
- HFOV
- HFJV
- Conventional ventilators
- CPAP
- HFNC
- Nasal Cannula
Monitoring
- Telemetry available
- RNs interpret monitor strips
Staffing
- Charge Nurse: Yes

Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Four-week schedules
- Weekends: May be required every weekend
- Holidays: Possible based on contract needs
- Standby: May be placed on standby if census is low
Floating
May float to:
- Pediatrics to care for NICU graduates
- Patients up to 12 months of age
- 1:1 behavioral health sitter
- Postpartum to assist with well-baby care
Dress Code
