Emergency Room | RN **Certs Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, NRP, PALS or ENPC -NIHSS- client allows for clinician to earn this within 30 days of start -NRP- client allows for clinician to earn this within 30 days of start. Have class at facility to earn this. - Trauma Level: Trauma Level 4- Not STEMI receiving and not a stroke center. - # Beds/Trauma Bays: 7 beds, expanding this fall to 14. Staff: 3 RN with charge, 3 swings shifts 9,11,3 where someone else comes in. - Do you have a Fast Track: No but potentially with the expansion. - Do you have a separate Triage area? If so, do you allow/require travelers to do Triage: Yes and yes, travelers potentially can triage if have previous experience. - Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER: Intermixed. - Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms: No- we are not a licensed psych facility, voluntary patients only. - Is Security in-house 24/7: No security, dispatch dial 1230 if needed. - On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day: Appx 60 in 24 hours. - Nurse: Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 for non-acute, 2:1 to resuscitations- depends on acuity. - Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC are interchangeable. NRP is not required but is desired though for travelers. - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Literally everything, traumas(in a recreational area) about 20/month: burns, car accidents, water rescue, general surgical, orthopedic injuries, OB patients, STEMI send outs, ERCP upper GI bleeds send out, life flight available if needed. - Experience or 'Must have' skills: Smaller hospital experience preferred. Candidate should have previous travel experience. - Common drips: Heparin, pressors, blood. Limited ICU holds- try to have ICU come to mange, but ER RNs can also hold. - ED Physician/Mid-Levels: 24 hour physician, 11a-11p 2 providers and utilize both Mid Levels and physicians. - Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Both CN and HS, and charge will take an assignment when needed and on nights. - Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters: CNAs, techs, unit clerk, sitters typically come from other units in the hospital- no ratios, just helping hands. 11-11 1 CNA is scheduled to assist most shifts. - Is RT in the ER 24/7? Do they do ABG's, breathing Tx, & EKG's?: RT in house for whole hospital 24/7. Yes to ABG and breathing Tx but nurse may need to do breathing Tx from time to time. Nursing does all EKGs. - RT Equipment-Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot: Yes we have all 4, and no, just troubleshoot. - Do you have Monitor Techs in the ER: Yes, Some are paramedics and others have limited medical background. They do not interpret strips but do keep watch and notify RN of changes also unit clerk. Tele monitors are Mindray. RN responsibility to read strips. - X-Ray or CT in the ER/ Transport:  Yes to both, techs transport unless unstable and then nurse accompanies. Imaging is directly next to ED. - Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RN's draw: RN do majority off IV starts, phlebotomy is available as resource. - Shifts & Scheduling: 7-7, No self-scheduling, manager to make the schedule. Try to accommodate blocks if that is desired we try to accommodate. - Weekend Requirements: Every other, filling in gaps. - Holiday Requirements: Yes, work as scheduled. - Is there call or a standby requirement: Not historically for travelers. - Floating Requirements: Not required but desired- if have other experience working another unit and willing (rare), mostly have people floating to ER not ER floating around the house. - Scrub Color/Dress Code: None specific, solid or prints ok. - Unit/Department specific orientation: Yes- typically 2 shifts with RN during first orientation week.
