Position: Neurodiagnostic Technologist I (EEG Technologist)
Location: Edison, NJ
Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Schedule: 5x8-hour shifts (40 hours/week)
Weekends/Holidays: As needed
On-Call: Required
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Job Summary
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist I performs routine and advanced electroencephalography (EEG) procedures for pediatric and adult patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The technologist is responsible for acquiring high-quality neurodiagnostic recordings, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). The role also assists with student training and participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex EEG studies according to physician orders and departmental protocols.
- Conduct both inpatient and outpatient EEG testing.
- Perform EEG monitoring for pediatric and adult patients.
- Assist with continuous EEG monitoring in the ICU and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures and applying EEG electrodes using the international 10–20 electrode placement system.
- Monitor EEG recordings for quality and identify artifacts during acquisition.
- Document patient history, procedure details, and technical observations accurately.
- Operate and troubleshoot EEG equipment, including Natus and Nihon Kohden systems (preferred).
- Recognize abnormal EEG patterns and promptly notify supervising physicians when appropriate.
- Maintain patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality throughout procedures.
- Assist in training students and newly hired staff.
- Maintain equipment functionality and report malfunctions as needed.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of EEG experience.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient EEG.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent.
- Experience with Natus EEG systems.
- Experience with Nihon Kohden EEG systems.
Required Certifications
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider
- Eligible for ABRET Registration (Registered EEG Technologist eligibility)
