Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU Float Pool
Location: Portland, Maine
Facility: Maine Medical Center
Start Date: ASAP
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) or Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Schedule: 48 Hours/Week
Join Maine Medical Center, Maine’s largest tertiary care hospital and Level I Trauma Center, as an ICU Float Pool RN. This role is ideal for experienced critical care nurses who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy the variety of caring for critically ill patients across multiple specialty ICUs. Located in the heart of Portland, you’ll have the opportunity to work at one of New England’s premier academic medical centers while enjoying Maine’s beautiful coastline, vibrant food scene, and endless outdoor recreation.
Position Details
• Specialty: ICU Float Pool
• Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
• Start Date: ASAP
• Shift Options:
• Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week
• Weekend Requirement: 75% of scheduled weekends
• Float: Required throughout multiple ICU and Intermediate Care units based on experience
Unit Information
• Float assignments include:
• Medical ICU (MICU)
• Neuro ICU
• Surgical/Trauma ICU (SICU)
• Cardiac ICU (CICU)
• Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU)
• Intermediate Care (IMC) units as needed
• Patient Ratios:
• ICU: 1:2
• IMC: 1:3
• Number of Beds: Varies by unit
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic
Patient Population
You’ll provide care for a wide variety of critically ill adult patients, including:
• Mechanically ventilated patients
• Sedated patients
• Patients receiving vasoactive medications (pressors)
• Medical, surgical, neurologic, and cardiac critical care patients
Please Note: This assignment focuses on caring for basic ICU patients. Travelers will not be assigned highly specialized therapies such as CRRT.
Requirements
• Active RN license
• Minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience
• Minimum of 1 year of travel nursing experience
• Recent acute care hospital experience required
• Strong critical care assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Experience caring for ventilated, sedated, and vasoactive medication patients
• Flexibility to float between multiple ICU specialties and Intermediate Care units
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability
