Job Summary – RN Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CVSICU)

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CVSICU)
Unit: The Johns Hopkins Hospital – CVSICU (Zayed 5 East)
Shift: Rotating Days/Nights (7A/7P) or Straight Nights
Schedule: 12-Hour Shifts
Contract Length: 103 Days (Approximately 14–15 Weeks)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours/week

Position Overview

The RN will provide specialized critical care to patients recovering from complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures. The ideal candidate must have recent experience in a dedicated Open-Heart ICU, receiving patients directly from the operating room and managing advanced hemodynamic support.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• Current experience in a dedicated Open-Heart/Cardiovascular Surgical ICU
• Must have cared for patients directly from the OR
• Experience recovering post-operative cardiac surgery patients in an ICU setting

Licensure

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) License

Required Certifications

• BLS

Preferred Certifications

• ACLS
• Critical Care Certification (CCRN preferred)
• Trauma course

Charting

• EPIC (preferred)

Scheduling

• Rotating Day/Night shifts (7A/7P) or Straight Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 or 48 hours/week assignments available

Ideal Candidate

• Experienced Cardiovascular Surgical ICU RN
• Strong background in open-heart recovery immediately post-OR
• Skilled with advanced cardiac devices and hemodynamic monitoring
• Comfortable managing high-acuity critical care patients requiring ECMO, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, and vasoactive medications
• Able to function independently in a fast-paced academic medical center specializing in complex cardiovascular surgery
