Schedule: Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM | Every 3rd Weekend
Shift: Evenings (40 Hours/Week)

 

Position Overview

Summa Health is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to join the Sterile Processing Department at Akron Campus. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, decontaminated, sterilized, assembled, stored, and distributed while maintaining strict infection prevention and patient safety standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, clean, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Assemble instrument trays according to count sheets and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Package instruments using appropriate sterilization methods and maintain accurate labeling.
  • Perform biological and chemical monitoring of sterilizers and maintain sterilization documentation.
  • Operate washers, sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, and other Sterile Processing equipment safely.
  • Perform flexible endoscope decontamination and high-level disinfection/sterilization.
  • Receive, inspect, track, and process loaner and borrowed surgical instrumentation.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of sterile supplies and respond promptly to department requests.
  • Coordinate with supply chain personnel regarding instrument and equipment needs.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Support Operating Room and procedural areas by ensuring sterile instrumentation is available when needed. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current CRCST (HSPA) or CBSPD Certification is REQUIRED.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Sterile Processing Technician experience.
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, and lift equipment throughout the shift. 

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with flexible endoscope processing.
  • Strong knowledge of sterilization standards and infection prevention practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced hospital environment.
