Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – Labor & Delivery / OB-GYN

Facility: W.W. Hastings Hospital – Tahlequah, OK
Contract Length: 12 Weeks (Extension Possible)
Schedule: Approximately 7–24-hour shifts per month (Weekend coverage varies)

 

Position Summary:

W.W. Hastings Hospital is seeking an experienced Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care in a busy Labor & Delivery unit. The CNM will independently manage uncomplicated pregnancies, labor, vaginal deliveries, postpartum care, and newborn assessments while collaborating closely with OB/GYN physicians for high-risk pregnancies and operative deliveries. This position is primarily focused on Labor & Delivery, with occasional opportunities to provide care in the Women's Clinic.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care for low-risk obstetrical patients.
  • Perform patient triage, admission assessments, labor management, uncomplicated vaginal deliveries, and postpartum discharges for non-cesarean patients.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout labor and delivery using evidence-based practices.
  • Recognize high-risk pregnancies, obstetrical complications, and fetal distress, consulting the OB/GYN physician as appropriate.
  • Provide newborn assessments and immediate post-delivery care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, newborn care, family planning, and reproductive health.
  • Develop individualized care plans and coordinate multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and fetal monitoring as appropriate.
  • Document patient assessments, labor progression, deliveries, procedures, and discharge planning accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in obstetric emergencies and neonatal resuscitation as required.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatric providers, nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and evidence-based obstetrical practices.

Practice Highlights:

  • Approximately 5–6 births per day.
  • Primary responsibility is Labor & Delivery with occasional Women's Clinic coverage.
  • Physician support is available for high-risk pregnancies, operative deliveries, and cesarean patients.
  • Dedicated on-site call room provided.
  • Providers are always off after post-call.
  • Opportunity for contract extension based on facility needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum Level IV Midwife/Advanced Obstetrical experience preferred.
  • Experience independently managing labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
  • Ability to triage obstetrical patients and manage uncomplicated vaginal deliveries independently.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • Active Oklahoma Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) License
  • AMCB (American Midwifery Certification Board) Certification
  • Oklahoma DEA Registration
  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • OBDNN Certification (as required by the facility)

Schedule:

  • 24-hour in-house shifts
  • Approximately 7 shifts per month
  • Weekend shifts may vary depending on coverage by full-time providers or locum tenens.
  • Minimum 24 hours off between scheduled 24-hour shifts.
