Travel NICU/Special Care Nursery RN – Night Shift
Facility: Concord Hospital
Shift: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Unit: Level II Special Care Nursery within an 18-bed LDRP
SCN Size: 6 beds
Average SCN Census: Approximately 2–5 neonates
Charting: Cerner preferred
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced NICU or Special Care Nursery RN for a night-shift assignment in an integrated LDRP and neonatal care unit. The nurse must be comfortable caring for premature and medically complex neonates, attending deliveries, and supporting postpartum or pediatric areas when needed.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3–4 years of total RN experience
- At least 2 years of recent NICU or Level II Special Care Nursery experience
- Must be comfortable caring for neonates born at 32 weeks gestation and above
- Previous postpartum experience preferred but not required
Required Clinical Skills
- Attend vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Provide immediate newborn assessment and stabilization
- Start neonatal peripheral IVs
- Manage CPAP
- Administer tube feedings
- Care for grower-feeder neonates
- Manage neonatal withdrawal and Eat, Sleep, Console protocols
- Administer surfactant through an LMA when appropriate
- Recognize and respond to changes in neonatal condition
Unit Details
- 6-bed Special Care Nursery integrated with an 18-bed LDRP
- Approximately 8–9 RNs staffed per shift
- Typically 2 SCN-trained nurses scheduled each shift
- Average SCN census ranges from 2–5 neonates
- Nurses attend vaginal deliveries and C-sections in the OR
Floating
Travelers may assist in Postpartum or Pediatrics based on staffing needs.
- Nurses with relevant experience may receive an assignment
- Nurses without the required specialty experience will function in a helping-hands role
- Floating is not expected to occur frequently
