Location: San Antonio, TX
Facility: 35-Bed Ortho/Surgical Unit
Shift: Variable (36 Hours/Week)
Contract Type: Travel

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join a fast-paced Orthopedic/Medical-Surgical unit in San Antonio, TX. This 35-bed unit cares for orthopedic, bariatric, and general surgery patients. The ideal candidate is a team player with a positive attitude who is comfortable floating to similar inpatient units as needed.

  • Unit: Orthopedic/Surgical
  • Beds: 35
  • EMR: MEDITECH
  • Equipment:
    • Computers on Wheels (COWs)
    • Hospira Infusion Pumps
    • iMobile Phones

Staffing

Day Shift

  • 1 Charge Nurse/CNC
  • 6 RNs
  • 3 Patient Care Technicians
  • 1 Unit Clerk

Night Shift

  • 1 Charge Nurse/CNC
  • 6 RNs
  • 3 Patient Care Technicians

Patient Ratio: 1:5–1:6

Patient Population & Procedures

The unit specializes in caring for patients recovering from:

  • Bariatric surgeries (Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve)
  • Total Hip Replacements
  • Total Knee Replacements
  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic Appendectomy
  • General Medical-Surgical conditions

Required Qualifications

  • Active Texas LVN License
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bariatric Certification
  • Medical-Surgical Certification
  • Orthopedic Certification
  • ACLS Certification

Floating Requirements

Candidates should be willing to float to:

  • Medical/Renal
  • Oncology
  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry
  • CVTS
  • Telemetry

Scheduling Expectations

  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Four weekend shifts per schedule (or two full weekends)
  • Night Shift Weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Day Shift Weekend: Saturday and Sunday

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Navy Blue (Top & Bottom)
  • Professional appearance required
  • Hair must be neat and natural in appearance
  • Tattoos should be covered whenever possible
  • Visible piercings (other than ears) are not permitted
  • Nails should be clean and healthy
