Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Key Responsibilities

Facility: Haskell Indian Health Center – Lawrence, KS

Shift: 8x5 (40hrs) Day

  • Provide direct nursing care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Perform patient intake, including obtaining medical histories, vital signs, and health assessments.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and minor procedures.
  • Administer prescribed medications, immunizations, injections, and treatments within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered nurses during examinations and procedures.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, catheter care, specimen collection, EKGs, point-of-care testing, and other nursing procedures.
  • Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes in health status, and promptly report findings to the provider or RN.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, chronic disease management, preventive care, and discharge instructions.
  • Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Coordinate patient referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and continuity of care.
  • Support chronic disease management programs for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Assist with infection prevention, medication safety, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain examination rooms, medical supplies, emergency equipment, and clinical inventory.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent patient situations and assist during medical emergencies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including providers, pharmacy, laboratory, behavioral health, and care coordination staff.
  • Deliver culturally sensitive, patient-centered care to American Indian and Alaska Native populations while maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) license.
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association preferred).
  • Minimum 2 year of clinical nursing experience (outpatient, primary care, family practice, community health, or hospital experience preferred).
License and Certification: Needs BLS (AHA) State License Must have recent 2 year's experience (clinic/outpatient)
