Description
Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery
Join a high-acuity Labor & Delivery team as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) providing exceptional care to mothers and newborns in a fast-paced, high-risk environment. This role is ideal for experienced L&D nurses who thrive in complex clinical settings and are confident caring for both laboring patients and newborns through the continuum of care.
Position Details
- Specialty: Labor & Delivery
- Schedule: Nights
- Shift: 4x12s, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work designated holiday rotations
- Floating Required: Antepartum, Postpartum, Mother/Baby, and nearby sister facilities as needed
Minimum Requirements
- Active RN license (Compact license accepted if applicable)
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience strongly preferred
- Experience in a high-acuity, high-volume Labor & Delivery setting
- First-time travelers welcome
- Current supervisory references required
- Current Nursys verification required at submission
- Must successfully pass clinical review
Required Certifications
- BLS
- NRP
Preferred Certifications
- ACLS
- AWHONN Intermediate
- AWHONN Advanced
Required Skills & Experience
Candidates must be able to:
- Circulate for Cesarean sections
- Function as Baby Nurse during deliveries
- Provide newborn care including:
- Newborn assessments
- Eye prophylaxis administration
- Vitamin K administration
- Care for high-risk obstetric patients
- Manage labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum care
- Interpret and respond to fetal monitoring findings
- Assist with vaginal and operative deliveries
Clinical Competencies
Experience with:
- High-risk antepartum patients
- Electronic fetal monitoring
- APGAR scoring
- Neonatal resuscitation
- Pitocin administration
- Magnesium sulfate therapy
- Insulin drips
- Antihypertensive medications
- Amnioinfusion
- Pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Postpartum hemorrhage management
- Epidural anesthesia
- Multiple births
- Forceps and vacuum-assisted deliveries
- Cesarean section recovery
- Breastfeeding and lactation support
- Newborn hypoglycemia management
- Thermoregulation and radiant warmers
- Foley catheter insertion and management
- Wound assessment and care
Patient Population
- High-risk obstetric patients
- Midwifery patients
- Private OB patients
- Newborns and infants
- Patients receiving substance recovery support services
Technology Requirements
EPIC experience is required and considered a hard-stop qualification.
Additional Information
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines
- Orientation provided prior to independent assignment
- Multidisciplinary support includes respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, and rapid response teams
- Travelers may be expected to float between affiliated facilities based on patient care needs
