Description
Registered Nurse – Med Surg / Orthopedic
- Shift: Days (6:30 AM–7:00 PM) or Nights (6:30 PM–7:00 AM)
- Unit: 28 Med Surg beds + 22 overflow beds
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Contract Type: Travel RN
Required Experience
- Med Surg experience required
- Orthopedic patient care experience preferred
- Able to care for:
- Total joint replacements (hips, knees, shoulders)
- Fractures
- COPD
- CHF
- Diabetes
- Sepsis
- Pneumonia
- Oncology
- Dementia
- IV antibiotic therapy
Certifications
- ✅ AHA BLS (Required)
Unit Details
- Charge nurse available
- CNA ratio approximately 1:10
- Monitor tech available
- Heparin, IV antibiotics, anticoagulants, and narcotic infusions
- No titratable drips
- Self-scheduling
- Every 3rd weekend required
- Float to PCU and Behavioral Health (McDermott) as needed
Important Submission Requirements
- Minimum 50-mile radius from facility (verified using driver's license)
- Driver's license required at submission
- Cannot currently be Full-Time, Part-Time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facility (within the past year)
- RTO must be submitted upfront (no additional RTO after submission)
- Artificial nails are prohibited
- Open-book competency exam during orientation
- Must score 90% or higher or contract will be terminated
- Prescreen + Auto Offer position

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
