Shift Options
- Days: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Evenings: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Nights: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Rotational weekends required
- Must be comfortable working 16-hour shifts occasionally
Position Overview
Seeking a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse to provide nursing care and services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The RN will be responsible for assessing, caring for, and treating patients while working closely with the care team. This position requires strong clinical judgment, accurate documentation, medication administration, and the ability to respond appropriately to emergency and behavioral situations.
Patient Population
- Individuals with intellectual disabilities
- Individuals with developmental disabilities
- Individuals with behavioral health needs
Patient Ratios
- Typical assignment: approximately 9–10 patients
- Higher-functioning patients may have slightly higher ratios
- Lower-functioning patients typically have smaller assignments
- Infirmary: approximately 15 patients total, supported by 3–4 RNs and a charge nurse
Orientation & Floating
- Approximately 2 weeks of classroom/educational orientation
- Followed by approximately 2 weeks of on-the-job training
- Nurses are initially oriented to multiple assignments before being placed where the greatest need exists
- Agency nurses are generally the first to float when coverage is needed on another unit
Requirements
Required:
- Active Texas RN License or Compact RN License
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to safely perform CPR and respond to emergency situations
- Nursing experience
- Ability to calculate medication dosages
- Ability to recognize and appropriately follow Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) procedures
- Ability to accurately maintain records and complete required reports
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and facility staff
- 2 professional references from 2 different employers required in submission packet
- COVID vaccination required
Preferred:
- 2 years of nursing experience
- At least 6 months of RN experience
- Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Local Pay Package
Estimated Weekly Gross: $1,920/week
- Taxable: $1,920/week
- Hourly Rate: $48/hr.
- OT Rate: $72/hr.
- Hours: 40/week
