Description

Simplified Job Posting – Medical Technologist (Microbiology)

Position: Medical Technologist – Microbiology
Shift: Day, 5×8 hours — 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
Weekend/Holiday: Rotating; currently every 3rd weekend
Call: None
First-time travelers: Accepted

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or relevant Medical/Scientific field
  • ASCP BOC Medical Technologist certification or equivalent specialty certification
  • Prefer 3+ years of experience
  • Strong Microbiology experience
  • Microbiology culture setup, plating, and reading
  • Gram stain experience
  • Culture identification and susceptibility testing
  • Rapid molecular/PCR testing experience
  • Experience with BioFire Torch and Cepheid assays
  • Beaker experience highly preferred

Lab Areas: Bacteriology, AFB, Mycology

Equipment/Systems: BD Kiestra, BD Bactec FX, BD Epicenter, BD Synapsys, Cepheid GeneXpert, BioFire Torch, BD Phoenix, Bruker MALDI, BD MGIT 960, Hologic Accuprobe.

Radius Rule: 60 miles

  • Non-local candidates prioritized.
  • Locals considered case-by-case at 10% lower bill rate.

Vaccines:

  • COVID vaccine: Not required
  • Flu vaccine: Required; medical/religious exemptions accepted

RTO: Must be provided at submission. RTO added after submission will not be accepted.

Important: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks.

MUSC Requirements:

  • Previous MUSC permanent/PRN staff must be separated for 1 year before returning as a traveler.
  • Only one MUSC unit/campus can be submitted at a time.
  • Hurricane-season emergency response assignments may apply from June–November.

Best candidate: An experienced Medical Technologist with strong Microbiology experience, especially in culture setup/reading, Gram stains, susceptibility testing, and rapid molecular testing.
