🏥 About Facility:
This facility is an acute hospital serving the Hilo and surrounding East Hawaii community. This assignment provides an opportunity to work in a hospital-based diagnostic imaging environment with a diverse adult cardiac patient population.
The Echo Technologist will perform comprehensive diagnostic echocardiographic examinations and work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
❤️ Clinical Expertise Required
Candidates must be competent to proficient in adult echocardiography, including:
Adult Echocardiography
- 2D-mode imaging
- Color flow mapping
- Continuous-wave (CW) Doppler
- Pulsed-wave (PW) Doppler
- Valvular disease studies
- Cardiomyopathy evaluations
- Congenital heart disease
- Pericardial disease
- Pericardial effusions
- Hypertensive heart disease studies
Advanced Echocardiography
- 2D Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
Pediatric Echo
- Pediatric echocardiography experience is a plus but not required
🖥️ Equipment
The department utilizes:
- Canon i700
- Canon i900
Candidates should be comfortable working with modern echocardiography equipment and producing high-quality diagnostic images.
💻 EMR / Technology
- Epic EMR
- Epic has been in use at the facility since November 1, 2025
- Familiarity with electronic clinical documentation and imaging workflows is expected
🎓 Requirements & Certifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of experience
- 3+ years in an acute hospital setting
- Active RDCS certification
- AHA BLS/BCLS
- Strong adult echocardiography experience
- Demonstrated competency with 2D, Doppler, color flow, and TEE studies
Certification Flexibility
The facility accepts ARDMS or CCI certification.
RDCS certification is specifically listed as required.
📋 Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive adult transthoracic echocardiograms
- Acquire diagnostic-quality 2D images
- Perform CW and PW Doppler studies
- Perform color flow mapping
- Evaluate and document cardiac anatomy and function
- Perform studies for valvular disease and cardiomyopathies
- Perform congenital and hypertensive heart disease studies
- Perform pericardial and effusion evaluations
- Perform 2D and 3D TEE examinations
- Ensure accurate measurements and appropriate image acquisition
- Maintain patient safety and comfort throughout examinations
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, and safety standards
- Accurately document examinations in the electronic medical record
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other diagnostic imaging professionals
- Participate in call coverage as required

Floating to other departments may be required.
Candidates should be comfortable adapting to operational needs across the facility.

⚠️ Important Start-Date Requirement
Candidates must be available to arrive in Hilo on Thursday, October 8, 2026, prior to the official Monday, October 12 start date.
The candidate will need to attend an Employee Health appointment on Friday, October 9.
Please do not accept this assignment if you cannot arrive in time for the required pre-start Employee Health appointment.
