Lead the Only Hospital Laboratory on Martha's Vineyard

We're seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Manager to oversee all laboratory operations at Martha's Vineyard Hospital, the island's only hospital and clinical laboratory. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced laboratory leader who enjoys balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on laboratory work while making a direct impact on patient care.

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the clinical laboratory, leading a team of Medical Technologists, Phlebotomists, Laboratory Aides, and a Laboratory Supervisor while ensuring exceptional quality, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

This role requires a leader who is comfortable stepping onto the bench when staffing needs arise and can serve as the laboratory's Technical Supervisor under CLIA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the clinical laboratory and ensure continuous 24/7 laboratory services.
• Lead and develop a team of Medical Technologists, Phlebotomists, Laboratory Aides, and Laboratory leadership staff.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, employee development, coaching, and performance evaluations.
• Serve as the laboratory's Technical Supervisor in accordance with CLIA regulations.
• Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and all regulatory standards.
• Oversee quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and accreditation readiness.
• Lead laboratory process improvement initiatives and instrumentation implementations.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to support patient care.
• Manage laboratory budgets, supplies, equipment, and operational planning.
• Develop and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and quality documentation.
• Provide bench coverage when needed due to staffing shortages or call-outs.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science.
• Current ASCP certification (required).
• Minimum of 4 years of high-complexity laboratory experience meeting CLIA Technical Supervisor requirements.
• Experience in:
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Microbiology
  • Blood Bank
• Previous laboratory leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and quality management systems.
• Ability to perform hands-on laboratory testing when operational needs require.
• Willingness to relocate and reside on Martha's Vineyard.

Preferred

• 3-5+ years of laboratory management experience.
• Experience managing hospital laboratory operations.
• Experience with budgeting, staffing, and regulatory inspections.
• Strong background in laboratory quality improvement and operational leadership.
