🏥 Position Overview

The Echo/Vascular Technologist will perform high-quality ultrasound examinations while providing safe, compassionate care to primarily inpatient adult patients.

This role requires a technologist who can confidently perform ultrasound examinations according to established protocols, operate diagnostic equipment appropriately, maintain patient safety and comfort, and accurately document examination results.

The ideal candidate will have strong adult transthoracic echocardiography experience, including experience with contrast agents and bubble studies.

Experience with vascular sonography and diagnostic ultrasound examinations is highly relevant to this role.

🩺 Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Exam Preparation

  • Prioritize and schedule ultrasound examinations
  • Coordinate exams with physicians, medical staff, physician offices, patients, and other departments
  • Follow established patient identification and verification processes
  • Educate patients and families regarding the examination and procedure
  • Transport patients as needed
  • Ensure patient safety, privacy, comfort, and dignity throughout the examination 

Diagnostic Imaging

  • Perform ultrasound examinations according to established protocols
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic images
  • Perform examinations efficiently while maintaining image quality
  • Appropriately operate and utilize ultrasound equipment
  • Perform studies primarily in an inpatient setting
  • Utilize contrast agents and bubble studies as appropriate to clinical protocols 

Post-Exam Care

  • Return patients safely to their rooms following examinations
  • Assess patient stability and communicate concerns appropriately
  • Coordinate ongoing patient care with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals 

Documentation & Quality

  • Accurately document examination results and required patient information
  • Ensure accurate charging for examinations and supplies
  • Follow department procedures and quality standards
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation 

Equipment & Department Support

  • Clean and maintain ultrasound equipment
  • Maintain an organized and safe work area
  • Stock necessary supplies

  • Participate in continuing education opportunities

🎓 Requirements

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or GED 

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution 

Required Certification

One of the applicable professional credentials/registries is required according to the department's requirements.

Listed credentials include:

  • ARDMS – Cardiac Sonography
  • ARDMS – Vascular Sonography
  • CCI – Cardiac Sonography
  • CCI – Vascular Sonography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers 

Experience

  • 1+ year of relevant experience
  • Strong adult transthoracic echocardiography experience
  • Experience with contrast and bubble echo strongly aligned with the position
  • TEE experience is a plus
