Hourly Rate

$35.00/hour (W-2, taxed)

Overtime Rate

$52.50/hour (hours over 40/week)

Weekly Per Diem

$1,246/week (lodging & meals, non-taxable)

One-Time Travel Allowance

$500 (paid at assignment start)

Estimated Weekly Gross Pay

$2,646/week (based on 40 hrs/week)

Estimated weekly gross is based on 40 hours/week: $1,400 in taxable wages + $1,246 in per diem. Per diem reimburses lodging and meals while on assignment away from your permanent tax home and is separate from taxable wages. Overtime and per diem amounts will vary based on actual hours worked and days on assignment.

About the Role

We are seeking a certified Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing Technician) for a contract assignment supporting the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico, part of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. This is a contract position supporting safe and effective instrument decontamination, sterilization, and case cart operations critical to infection prevention and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, and packaging of surgical instruments
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (steam and low-temperature systems) and biological/chemical indicators
• Prepare and distribute case carts to support surgical and procedural areas
• Process loaner instruments and follow point-of-use cleaning principles
• Maintain accurate load documentation and recordkeeping using instrument tracking systems
• Follow recall procedures and report sterile processing events as required
• Apply appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety practices, including hazardous materials and chemical safety protocols
• Maintain compliance with AAMI, CDC, The Joint Commission, and IHS sterile processing standards
• Coordinate with the Supervisory Clinical Nurse to float to other duty sections as needed to support patient care
• Safeguard patient information in accordance with HIPAA and IHS privacy and security requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 24 months of sterile processing experience
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT-CBSPD) certification, maintained active throughout the assignment
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Valid state driver's license, if required by the position
• Immunity to Rubella, Mumps, and Rubeola (MMR) documentation
• Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination series (3 doses), positive titer, or signed declination
• Documented history of chicken pox or varicella vaccination (2 doses) or positive varicella titer
• History of Tdap vaccination, with Td booster if more than 10 years since last dose
• Tuberculosis testing (TB skin test or IGRA) within the past 12 months, with chest x-ray and follow-up documentation if positive
• Proof of current-season influenza vaccination (October 1 – March 31), per IHS policy
• Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively to communicate with patients and healthcare staff
• Respect for and awareness of American Indian and Alaska Native culture and community
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to pass a federal background investigation (OPM e-App) and FBI fingerprint clearance as a condition of contract assignment
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
