Assignment Length

13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• May require holidays depending on schedule

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• 2 years of Med Surg experience
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Unit Details

• 37-bed Med Surg unit
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6 on nights
• Telemetry patients are accepted and monitored centrally
• No vents on the unit
• BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow patients are seen
• Charge nurse support is usually available
• CNA support is available
• No call requirement

Floating

• May float to another floor if competent to do so
• Full patient assignment is expected when floating

Orientation

• 2 days in the department
• 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation

Common Patient Population

• COPD
• Sepsis
• CVA
• COVID
• Pneumonia
• Surgical patients, including hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, and bowel resections
