Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides respiratory care under the direction of a physician, delivering treatment, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory conditions.
  • Administer respiratory therapies, including aerosol medications, oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, and CPAP support.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, equipment use, smoking cessation, COPD, asthma management, and post-discharge care.
  • Manage airways, including suctioning and care of established airways.
  • Assist with and perform intubation as directed by physicians.
  • Operate and manage mechanical ventilators, including selecting appropriate ventilator modes and monitoring critically ill patients.
  • Perform ventilator weaning and spontaneous breathing trials.
  • Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust respiratory treatment plans accordingly.
  • Utilize and troubleshoot respiratory equipment for breathing assistance and secretion management.
  • Lead patients through breathing exercises and evaluate therapeutic outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Overall:
This role is responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care across a variety of patient populations, including critically ill patients requiring advanced airway management and mechanical ventilation, while ensuring patient education, safety, and optimal clinical outcomes.
