Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, Assistant Phlebotomy Supervisor, and the Director of Laboratory Services, collects blood specimens for analysis and processes accessions requisitions into the Laboratory Computer System.
Job Functions
1. Successfully obtains blood specimens from all age groups (newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric population).
2. Responds to stat requests by giving priority treatment to affected patients and alerting department personnel to stat requests.
3.Maintains proper documentation of activities by logging in and out of nursing books and signing other required documentation.
4.Performs accessioning duties by correctly identifying patients data, entering test requests, and labeling of all specimens according to lab protocols.
5.Assists with transporting specimen samples between departments as needed.
6.Assists with specimens brought in and staffing of specimen processing department.
7.Travels to Nursing Homes, Patient Homes requiring Home Care, and Satellite Facilities for blood collection as needed.
8.Assists with general operations by covering understaffed areas as needed, starting glucose tolerance tests, answering phones and other related duties.
9.Complies with departmental and hospital policy and procedures.
10.Promotes Service Excellence.
11.Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and follow all hospital and laboratory safety practices and regulatory procedures. Participate in quality improvement and safety activities as appropriate.
12.Maintains and supports patients rights to care, privacy and respect.
13.Other duties as assigned from time to time.
