What the Facility Wants (Requirements & Expectations)
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience Required: Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without it will be considered. No license or background hits accepted.
- License & Certifications: Active state license, BLS, and NIHSS required.
- Mandatory Submission Requirement: An unexpired driver's license is required at submittal to verify the 50-mile radius rule. Candidates cannot be active full-time, part-time, or PRN employees with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and/or Dignity).
Clinical & Unit Overview
- Unit Details: 25-bed Med Surg Neuro unit (4th Floor North). Patient types include stroke, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, joint replacements, fractures, sepsis, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and general Med-Surg overflow.
- Patient Ratios: 1:5 to 1:6 (supported by CNAs/PCTs at a 1:10–20 ratio).
- Drips & Monitoring: Required to titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine (PCA pumps used). Tele techs interpret strips; RNs need basic tele awareness.
- Charting System: Standard facility EMR.
Scheduling & Unit Policies
- Weekends & Holidays: At least every other weekend required (additional shifts based on census); 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's. Limited block scheduling approved.
- Floating Requirements: Required to float to other medical-surgical areas or units with Med-Surg patients.
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs. Strict artificial fingernail policy (refusal to remove leads to contract termination).
- Orientation & Testing: 2 days of unit-specific orientation. Requires passing an open-book skills exam on Friday during orientation with a score of 90% or higher to avoid termination.

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
