Description

Job Title: Sleep Lab Tech
Duration: 13+ Weeks + High possibility of extension
Location: Elizabethtown, KY 42701
Schedule: Night Shift: 3*12, Saturday and Sunday nights, plus one additional night each week (36 hours/week).

 

Job Summary:
Analyze and interpret sleep study data obtained from patients undergoing diagnostic testing for sleep related disorders.
Use specialized software and equipment to analyze sleep patterns, respiratory events, and physiological parameters, providing accurate and detailed reports to assist clinicians in diagnosing and treating patients with sleep disorders.

 

Job Responsibilities:
--Sleep Study Analysis: 
-Utilize polysomnography (PSG) and other sleep monitoring equipment to record and analyze physiological data during sleep studies, including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), electrocardiography (ECG), and respiratory parameters.
-Review and interpret sleep study data to identify sleep stages, sleep architecture, respiratory events (e.g., apneas, hypopneas), movement disorders, and other sleep-related phenomena.
-Apply scoring criteria and guidelines (e.g., AASM scoring manual) to classify sleep stages, respiratory events, and other physiological parameters accurately.
--Data Management and Reporting: 
-Maintain accurate records of sleep study data, including patient demographics, test settings, and analysis results, using electronic health record (EHR) systems or specialized sleep study software.
-Generate comprehensive sleep study reports summarizing findings, interpretation of results, and recommendations for clinical management, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
-Collaborate with clinicians, sleep physicians, and other healthcare providers to communicate analysis results, address questions or concerns, and facilitate patient care decisions.
--Quality Assurance and Compliance: 
-Ensure adherence to established protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements for sleep study data acquisition, analysis, and reporting, including those set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and other accrediting bodies.
-Participate in quality assurance activities, including inter-scorer reliability checks, peer review sessions, and proficiency testing, to maintain consistency and accuracy in sleep study scoring.
-Identify and troubleshoot technical issues or equipment malfunctions related to sleep study data acquisition and analysis, collaborating with technical support or biomedical engineering staff as needed.
--Patient Care and Support: 
-Assist in the setup and preparation of patients for sleep studies, ensuring comfort, safety, and compliance with testing procedures and protocols.
-Educate patients about the purpose of sleep studies, the equipment used during testing, and what to expect during the procedure, addressing any questions or concerns to alleviate anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
-Provide support and reassurance to patients during sleep studies, monitoring for signs of discomfort, anxiety, or adverse reactions and responding appropriately to ensure a positive experience.
--Professional Development and Collaboration: 
-Stay abreast of advancements in sleep medicine, sleep study techniques, and diagnostic technologies through continuing education, professional development activities, and participation in relevant conferences or workshops.
-Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and sleep medicine specialists, to exchange knowledge, share insights, and enhance patient care outcomes.

 

Required Skills & Experience:
-Less than one year of job-related experience.
-Strong knowledge of sleep physiology, sleep disorders, and diagnostic criteria.
-Proficiency in the use of sleep study software, polysomnography equipment, and electronic health record systems.
-Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Required Education:
-High School/GED.

 

Preferred Education:
-Certificate or associate’s degree in polysomnography or respiratory therapy.

 

Required Certifications & Licensure:
-Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist (RRT-SDS) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS) credential.
-BLS.
-Must obtain BLS upon hire, within 90 days.

Required Certifications & Licensure: -Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist (RRT-SDS) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS) credential. -BLS.
