Emergency Department RN – Travel Assignment

Unit: Emergency Department
Beds: 19
EMR: Meditech
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Average Volume: Approximately 100 patients/day

Schedule

Shifts: 11:00 AM–11:00 PM or 3:00 PM–3:00 AM
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
Floating: No
Orientation: 24 hours of unit-specific orientation

Patient Population

The ED cares for a diverse patient population, including:

Chest pain
Abdominal pain
Psychiatric patients
Altered mental status (AMS)
Stroke
Trauma
Pediatric patients

Clinical Environment

Telemetry: Spacelabs
Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry strips
Vents: Yes; respiratory therapy manages ventilators
RT available 24/7
Pharmacy available 24/7
Hospitalist coverage available
IV team: No
Nurse aides: Yes

Common Drips

Experience with the following drips is utilized:

Propofol
Levophed
Heparin
Nitroglycerin
Insulin
Cardizem

Additional Details

Charge nurse role is not required for travelers.
Approximately 100 patients are seen in the ED each day.
Current hospital-issued scrub color: Ceil Blue
Once the hospital returns to personal scrubs, the required color will be Navy.
No floating to other units.
