BLS Certification RN id/compact license

Shift Notes

7p-7a, weekends as needed, first to float float to ‘like’ units which are within their scope at the Boise, Meridian, and Nampa St. Luke’s campuses

 

Key requirements

  • BLS required
  • Preferred: Oncology/chemo and/or BMT experience
  • Oncology RN: 1 year may be acceptable
  • General MedSurg RN: 2 years required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Chemo certification required if administering chemotherapy
  • Higher acuity than a typical MedSurg floor

Clinical environment

  • BMT
  • Oncology
  • GYN oncology surgeries
  • Hospice
  • General MedSurg
  • Pain medication drips/PCAs; no titratable drips
  • CPAP and high-flow oxygen
  • Telemetry with tele techs; nurses must recognize/respond to life-threatening rhythms

Staffing & schedule

  • 1 RN : 3–4 patients
  • CNA ratio approximately 1:8
  • Charge nurse every shift, no patient assignment
  • 12-hour shifts, 7a–7p / 7p–7a
  • Management creates the schedule
  • Nights may be blocked together, but travelers need flexibility
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required
  • No call/standby

Floating

Travelers are first to float:

  • Other MedSurg units
  • Potentially sister facilities in Meridian or Nampa

Orientation

  • 2 unit-specific shifts with a preceptor
