Special Education Teacher – Cognitive Impairment (SCI/SXI)

Location: Dearborn, Michigan
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 3:10 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 38 hours/week
Caseload: 12–15 students
Contract: 42 weeks as listed

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with Severe Cognitive Impairment (SCI) / Severe Multiple Impairment (SXI). The teacher will provide individualized instruction, develop and implement IEPs, monitor student progress, and collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs aligned with individual student goals.
• Provide differentiated instruction based on each student's learning needs.
• Collect, monitor, and document student progress data.
• Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families.
• Maintain compliance with IDEA and district special education requirements.
• Foster a structured, positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Support students with severe cognitive and multiple impairments through individualized educational strategies.
• Maintain accurate documentation and student records.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Special Education certification.
• Cognitive Impairment (SA/CI) endorsement required.
• Previous experience working with students with cognitive impairments preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Effective classroom management skills.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
