Experience & Qualifications
- Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience, including at least 1 year of Med-Surg experience at a large hospital (+450 beds).
- License & Certifications: Active Indiana state RN license (or compact license as of 7/1/20) and BLS through AHA required in hand.
Clinical & Unit Overview
- Unit Details: General Medical and Surgical units. Patient population includes chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological issues, and mental health disorders.
- Patient Ratios: 1:5 to 1:6.
- Key Skills & Equipment: Assessments, care planning, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and management of heparin and insulin drips. Utilizes EPIC charting, Pyxis, Hospira IV pumps, and telemetry monitoring.
- Floating Requirements: Med-Surg RNs float to other medical units or areas in greatest need.
Scheduling & Facility Policies
- Weekends: 3 weekend shifts required in a 4-week period.
- Call-Off & Orientation: The facility can call off or cancel up to 24 hours per 13-week assignment. Includes 8 hours of non-billable orientation (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation; clinicians returning within 12 months are ineligible for NBO).
- Local Policy: Local rate applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles, resulting in a 12% reduction of the regular bill rate.
- Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
