Facility: VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS)
Location: 6900 North Pecos Road, North Las Vegas, NV 89086-4400
Department: Radiology – Nuclear Medicine
Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Positions Available: 1
Contract: 1 Year + 4 Option Years
Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Hours: 40 hours/week baseline
 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist to support the Radiology Department at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) in North Las Vegas, NV.

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform a variety of nuclear medicine imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety, radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and accurate imaging results. The technologist will also participate in quality assurance activities and support the training of students and new technologists.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of nuclear medicine imaging studies according to established protocols.
  • Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures and explain examinations, processes, and safety precautions.
  • Safely handle, prepare, administer, and dispose of radioactive materials in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate radiation safety and dosimetry practices.
  • Perform required wipe tests, bio-assays, and laboratory radiation surveys.
  • Conduct daily laboratory surveys and maintain required radiation safety documentation.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report or troubleshoot issues as appropriate.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) activities.
  • Maintain accurate patient and procedure documentation.
  • Utilize imaging and healthcare information systems, including PACS, VistA, and CPRS.
  • Follow VA policies, radiation safety standards, infection control procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to radioactive materials, quality control, and radiation safety.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and organized nuclear medicine environment.
  • Instruct and/or supervise students, trainees, and newly hired technologists as assigned.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participate in on-call, overtime, weekend, holiday, and rotating shift coverage as required.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program or equivalent qualifying education/experience.
  • Current NMTCB certification or primary ARRT(N) certification.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Experience performing nuclear medicine imaging procedures.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety, radioactive material handling, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with radiation monitoring, dosimetry, wipe testing, and bio-assays.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hospital-based nuclear medicine environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and patient-care skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Current NMTCB certification or primary ARRT(N) certification. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
