Position: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (R)
Positions Available: 3
Contract: 1 Year + 4 Option Years
Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Hours: 40 hours/week baseline
Job Summary:
We are seeking experienced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists (R) to support the Radiology Department at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) in North Las Vegas, NV.
The Radiologic Technologist will perform a variety of general diagnostic radiographic examinations, ensuring accurate patient identification, proper positioning, high-quality imaging, radiation safety, and compliance with departmental procedures. The technologist will also be expected to independently handle complex examinations and provide guidance to lower-level technologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general diagnostic radiographic examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Independently interpret and carry out physician requests, including complex and difficult examinations.
- Accurately identify patients and verify examination orders prior to performing procedures.
- Properly position patients and select appropriate technical factors to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and radiographic techniques to produce diagnostic-quality studies.
- Review images for quality, positioning, exposure, and completeness before submitting for interpretation.
- Maintain appropriate patient and image identification throughout the examination process.
- Follow radiation safety principles and utilize appropriate radiation protection measures.
- Operate radiographic equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Maintain equipment, imaging rooms, and work areas according to departmental standards.
- Follow infection control, patient safety, and VA policies and procedures.
- Provide appropriate patient care and communicate effectively with patients regarding examination procedures.
- Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals as needed during diagnostic procedures.
- Provide direction, guidance, and technical support to lower-grade/junior technologists.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to examinations and patient care.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent qualifying education and experience.
- Current ARRT (R) certification.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Strong knowledge of general radiographic positioning, techniques, anatomy, and radiation safety.
- Ability to independently perform routine and complex diagnostic radiographic examinations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital Radiology Department.
- Strong patient-care, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to provide technical direction and support to lower-level technologists.
