CT Technologist (Computed Tomography):

Facility: VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS)
Location: 6900 North Pecos Road, North Las Vegas, NV 89086-4400
Department: Radiology – Computed Tomography
Position: CT Technologist
Positions Available: 3
Contract: 1 Year + 4 Option Years
Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Hours: 40 hours/week baseline

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced CT Technologists to support the Radiology Department at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) in North Las Vegas, NV.

The CT Technologist will perform routine and complex computed tomography examinations of the head and body, independently carry out physician orders, ensure high-quality diagnostic imaging, and provide technical guidance to lower-level technologists. The position requires strong knowledge of CT anatomy, technical factors, contrast procedures, and emergency response.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and complex diagnostic CT examinations of the head and body.
  • Independently interpret and carry out physician requests, including the most difficult and technically challenging examinations.
  • Apply knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to obtain appropriate diagnostic images.
  • Select and adjust computerized technical factors based on the examination, patient condition, and protocol.
  • Review images for technical quality, positioning, artifacts, and diagnostic adequacy.
  • Recognize and appropriately document or communicate significant imaging abnormalities and areas of concern according to departmental protocols.
  • Perform CT angiography (CTA) and other advanced CT examinations as required.
  • Assist with invasive and interventional CT procedures, including needle localization and biopsy procedures.
  • Prepare patients for CT examinations and provide appropriate patient care throughout the procedure.
  • Administer contrast media according to established protocols and monitor patients for potential reactions.
  • Maintain and manage emergency equipment, including the crash cart, as required.
  • Assist with procedures involving sedation medications in accordance with established policies and scope of practice.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and utilize appropriate radiation protection measures.
  • Operate CT equipment safely and efficiently and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate patient identification, examination documentation, and imaging records.
  • Follow infection control, patient safety, VA, and departmental policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to lower-grade technologists, particularly during complex examinations.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized CT environment.
  • Participate in emergency response and other departmental activities as required.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent qualifying education and experience.
  • Current ARRT (CT) certification.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Strong knowledge of CT cross-sectional anatomy and computerized technical factors.
  • Demonstrated experience performing complex CT examinations.
  • Experience with CT angiography and/or interventional CT procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of contrast administration and management of contrast-related reactions.
  • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to emergency situations.
  • Strong patient-care, communication, and organizational skills.
Current ARRT (CT) certification. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
