Facility: VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS)
Location: 6900 North Pecos Road, North Las Vegas, NV 89086-4400
Department: Radiology – Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Position: MRI Technologist
Positions Available: 3
Contract: 1 Year + 4 Option Years
Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Hours: 40 hours/week baseline
 

Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced MRI Technologists to support the Radiology Department at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) in North Las Vegas, NV.

The MRI Technologist will perform diagnostic MRI examinations, ensure patient safety through thorough MRI screening, administer contrast when required, optimize imaging protocols, and maintain a safe and efficient MRI environment. The technologist may also provide technical guidance and cross-training to radiologic technologists supporting MRI operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and complex MRI examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Verify patient identity, examination orders, and relevant clinical information before scanning.
  • Conduct thorough MRI safety screening and identify contraindications, implants, devices, and other potential safety concerns.
  • Educate patients regarding MRI procedures, safety precautions, positioning, and what to expect during the examination.
  • Select appropriate MRI pulse sequences, protocols, coils, and imaging parameters based on the examination and patient needs.
  • Optimize images to ensure high-quality diagnostic studies.
  • Perform venipuncture and administer MRI contrast media according to established protocols and scope of practice.
  • Monitor patients during examinations and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or emergencies.
  • Maintain strict MRI safety practices within the controlled MRI environment.
  • Follow infection control procedures and maintain the MRI suite in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Accurately document patient information, examination details, contrast administration, and other required data.
  • Maintain and update the MRI protocol/exam booklet as required.
  • Operate MRI equipment safely and report equipment malfunctions or technical concerns.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Serve as a liaison to management regarding MRI section operations, workflow, equipment, and technical issues.
  • Provide technical support and cross-training to radiologic technologists regarding MRI physics, patient positioning, and coil selection.
  • Follow VA policies, radiation/MRI safety standards, infection control procedures, and departmental protocols.
  • Participate in quality assurance and other departmental activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology or MRI program, or equivalent qualifying education and experience.
  • Current ARRT (MR) certification or ARMRIT primary MRI certification.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Demonstrated experience performing MRI examinations.
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety protocols and contraindication screening.
  • Knowledge of MRI anatomy, physics, pulse sequences, positioning, and coil selection.
  • Experience with venipuncture and contrast administration preferred/required as applicable to facility protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Strong patient-care, communication, organizational, and technical skills.
Current ARRT (MR) certification or ARMRIT primary MRI certification. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
