Position Overview
Halcyon Nurse Staffing is seeking dependable and compassionate Patient Sitters / Patient Safety Technicians for flexible per-diem opportunities at VHC Health in Arlington, Virginia.
The Patient Safety Technician works under the direct supervision of an RN and helps maintain patient safety, particularly for patients who are confused, at risk for falls, or require one-to-one observation. VHC Health's current Patient Safety Technician posting specifically lists a high school diploma or equivalent as required and BLS certification as required, while customer-service experience is preferred.
Requirements & Qualifications Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current BLS certification
- Patient Safety Tech (Sitter): Minimum 1 year of customer service experience
- Ability to remain attentive and maintain continuous observation of assigned patients
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach
- Ability to follow instructions from the RN and healthcare team
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and safety
- Reliable attendance and professional conduct
Preferred
- Previous patient sitter, patient observer, nursing assistant, CNA, or patient care experience
- Previous hospital or acute-care experience
- Customer service experience
- Experience working with patients who are confused, fall risks, or require close observation
- Experience assisting with activities of daily living
Responsibilities
- Provide continuous observation of assigned patients as directed.
- Maintain the safety of patients who are confused, at high risk for falls, or require one-to-one observation.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior to the RN.
- Assist patients with feeding, dressing, and toileting as directed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable patient environment.
- Assist with patient transport and other department tasks as assigned.
- Respond appropriately to patient needs while remaining within the scope of the position.
- Communicate effectively with RNs and other healthcare team members.
- Follow all hospital safety, infection-control, and confidentiality policies.
