Description
ICU (Intensive Care Unit) 1 year exp required
CCU RN Travel Assignment
Department: CCU
Specialty: Critical Care / ICU RN
Unit Size: 11 beds
Shift: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Ratios: 1:1–2, occasionally 1:3 when short-staffed
Requirements
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- CCRN preferred
- Must have recent CVICU, SICU, or MICU experience
- Must be comfortable caring for high-acuity cardiac and critical-care patients
- Must independently titrate critical drips
Unit Experience
The CCU cares for a variety of high-acuity patients, including:
- Post-cath patients
- Cardiac patients
- Post-surgical patients
- Other critically ill patients
Common titratable drips: Pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, and insulin.
Unit & Staffing
- Approximately 6 RNs per shift
- Charge RN carries a patient assignment
- Typically 1 PCT per shift
- Fellows/residents in-house 24/7
- Attending coverage is not on-site 24/6
- RT available in the ICU 24/7, though may cover multiple units
- RT manages CPAP, BiPAP, vents, and trachs; RNs administer breathing treatments
- Centralized telemetry monitoring at the nurses' station
- No dedicated telemetry techs—RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry
Scheduling
- Travelers provide availability; scheduling team will make every effort to accommodate requests
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Travelers are expected to remain flexible and help fill permanent-staffing gaps
- Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result in termination
- No call or standby requirement
- Weekend requirement: At least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holiday rotation may be required
Floating
Travelers are first to float when needed. Floating is limited to stepdown, with a typical ratio of 1:3.
