Description
Pride Health is seeking a Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist for a 14-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will perform routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory procedures requiring technical skill, independent judgment, and decision-making. Responsibilities also include phlebotomy, specimen accessioning, quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and accurate result reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized diagnostic testing according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
- Verify specimen integrity, prioritize workload, evaluate and interpret test results, and take appropriate action.
- Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation and perform instrument QC, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Perform patient phlebotomy and specimen accessioning as needed.
- Utilize Cerner/STAR for test ordering, receiving, canceling, result verification, and follow-up of pending tests.
- Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
- Assist with evaluation and implementation of new methods and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Support CAP inspections and regulatory compliance activities.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain strict patient and work-related confidentiality.
- Follow all laboratory, hospital, safety, and compliance policies.
Required Qualifications
- ASCP, ASCPi, NCA, or AMT certification as an MT, MLS, or MLT.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related bachelor's degree with required prerequisite coursework and clinical training.
- Candidates qualifying through an approved alternate education/training route recognized by ASCP, NCA, or AMT may be considered.
- Experience operating laboratory instrumentation.
- Patient phlebotomy experience required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Cerner/STAR laboratory information systems.
- Experience with quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Previous experience in a hospital or high-volume clinical laboratory environment.
